White Collar

November 5, 2007  |  A lawyer hurls back a cannister of tear gas in Lahore, Pakistan, last Monday. After the country's president, General Pervez Musharraf, declared a state of emergency over the weekend, lawyers -- in suit and tie -- took the lead in fighting the encroaching police state.

In the days after Musharraf's announcement, he had Supreme Court justices removed and placed under house arrest, while activists, educators, and lawyers were arrested and jailed.

crazy. much respect to Pakistani lawyers--if the same thing happened in this country, i wonder whether our lawyers would be in the front lines fighting. (or if we would have the guts to do so?)
